October 2024: Umbrella agreement with DIN renewed<\/h2>\n

Since 2016<\/strong>, we have been translating international and European standards for Deutsches Institut f\u00fcr Normung (DIN e.V.).<\/strong><\/a> We are pleased that the umbrella agreement has been extended until December 2026<\/strong>. We would like to thank DIN for the trust they have placed in our work and the always interesting topics and subject areas as well as our motivated and reliable colleagues for their accurate, high-quality work on these complex translation<\/strong> and revision<\/strong> processes.<\/p>\n

\nInternational Translation Day \u2013
\nFeast day of St. Jerome<\/h2>\n

On 30 September 2024<\/strong>, the International Translation Day (ITD) reminds us of the important role professional translators play in our globalised world.
\nIn 1953, the Federation of Translators (FIT) \u2013 the umbrella organisation of our profession \u2013 set up the International Translation Day. It is now celebrated annually on the feast of St. Jerome, the important linguist and Bible translator, who is known as the patron saint of all translators, interpreters and terminologists. In May 2017, the United Nations officially recognised this day, thus emphasising the ever increasing importance of this profession.<\/p>\n

Many people think that everyone who can speak more than one language is automatically a translator. But there\u2019s more to a good translation than just speaking two languages: Translators are professional language mediators with not only broad linguistic, but also comprehensive cultural and technical knowledge.<\/p>\n

The BD\u00dc<\/strong> (Bundesverband der Dolmetscher und \u00dcbersetzer, en: Federal Association of Interpreters and Translators), is once again providing further information on this topic at www.hieronymustag.de<\/a>: The campaigns and events planned by the federal association and its member organisations for the International Translation Day will be published here on an ongoing basis.<\/p>\n
